A friend of mine lent me The Girl Before by J.P. Delaney, and despite her high recommendation, the book sat on my desk for about three weeks. However, when I finally did pick up the book, I couldn’t put it down. This psychological thriller instantly grabbed my attention with its plot, pace, and page-turning writing.
The chapters are captivating, but short, allowing the reader to go back and forth between Emma and Jane. The only connection the two have is One Folgate Street, a minimalist and bizarre home. Emma lived in the architectural masterpiece first, then Jane. But what happened in between? The mystery isn’t revealed until later in the novel and whether or not it’s the truth is to be determined. With elegant twists and turns, Delaney keeps us guessing until the very end of the novel.
This page-turning book is the perfect read for the cold and snowy days ahead.
