In the scorching heat, I walked through history – on top of the Colosseum, through the Roman Forum, passed the Pantheon, inside of Vatican City, next to ancient ruins, below the Sistine Chapel, in St. Peter's Basilica, down the Spanish Steps, around the Trevi Fountain. Everything I had read in textbooks, been taught in class, and seen in photos was right in front of me.
I was surrounded by history, I was overwhelmed by it, and I was taken by everything.
Julius Caesar walked the streets I strolled through, Michelangelo painted the ceiling above my head, Gladiators fought and died right below my feet. Our world is built upon the developments of Rome – roads, architecture, government, language. These achievements were accomplished in this place where I stood. If that doesn't make you stop and think, I don't know what will.
Rome is the city of echoes, the city of illusions, and the city of yearning - Giotto di Bondone
I recently graduated Boston College, currently living in New York, and just trying to find the next adventure.
